Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan yesterday called for lifting sanctions imposed on Syria “as soon as possible.” Speaking during a joint press conference with the head of the new Syrian administration, Ahmad Al-Sharaa – known by his nom de guerre Mohammad Al-Jolani, in Damascus, Fidan said the “international community needs to mobilise to help Syria get back on its feet and for the displaced people to return,” noting that the sanctions imposed on the former regime must be lifted as soon as possible so that services can be provided.
