Israel media slams renowned footballer Mesut Ozil over Palestine map

Hebrew websites have launched a scathing attack on former German national team star, Mesut Ozil, after he published a map of historic Palestine on his Instagram page. Ozil published a map of Israel with the word crossed out and “PALESTINE” written to replace it. The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth claimed Ozil was calling for the eradication of Israel, adding that over the years he had been criticised in Germany for his controversial political statements and close ties with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
